Mill-Duty
Mill-Duty projects encompass the world of large, heavy-duty manufacturing facilities. One of the main characteristics of Mill-Duty buildings is their use of many high-capacity bridge-type cranes. As such, this type of building requires tall walls and long column-free spans.
Nucor is the sixth largest steel producer in the world. As a recycler of scrap steel, Nucor mills need to process a lot of scrap 24/7. Scrap enters the mills via truck, rail and barge. The logistics of uninterrupted processing requires a well-planned layout of the mill campus.
The processing of scrap will, at some point, involve the detection of radioactive orphan sources from rogue disposers. Nucor has armed all their facilities with primary and secondary Radiation Portal Monitors throughout their mills.
